Jenny Komenda’s love of faith-centered art began in college, when she worked at BYU’s Museum of Art during its acquisition of Carl Bloch’s Christ at the Pool of Bethesda as well as Minerva Teichert’s retrospective. These were foundational experiences that planted in her a seed of love for finding and creating Christ-centered art, and helped Jenny’s faith come alive. Jenny continued to study and practice as an artist for the next 15 years, while she pursued a career as an interior designer, magazine contributing editor and home influencer. She and Michael launched Juniper Print Shop in 2017, which features Jenny’s art alongside the works of more than 40 independent female artists and dozens of museums. Drawing on their life experiences and the work they began with Juniper, Jenny and Michael have felt inspired to create The Rooted Home as an expressly Christian-focused art company.
Principally responsible for the devotionals that accompany The Rooted Home’s art, Michael is a lifelong student of religion who loves a good Christian metaphor and has incorporated religious studies, world religions, theology and Christian apologetics into his studies at both Arizona State University and Harvard Law School. Among his personal theological heroes are C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton, Neal A. Maxwell, Origen of Alexandria, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, N.T. Wright, Hugh Nibley, Richard Rohr, Iraneus of Lyons, Terryl & Fiona Givens, Emmanuel Swedenborg, S. Michael Wilcox, Julian of Norwich and Adam Miller.
Michael and Jenny and their four daughters love to travel the world and have visited religious sites in more than 30 countries. We firmly believe that God loves all of His children equally, and we have felt God’s love throughout the world, in mosques and synagogues, cathedrals, house churches and temples. The Rooted Home is our heartfelt attempt to share some of the things we have found and learned in our personal religious journeys that we hope can be a source of light and peace to you.
